Hechmer, Catherine
Interprofessional Education and Practice Field Coordinator
Bio
Catherine has worked for the College of Social Work since 2015, initially in a Medicaid grant-funded program focused on training social work students to provide integrated behavioral health in primary care settings. In her current position, Catherine develops and coordinates placement for students pursuing experience in healthcare social work and supervises students completing practicum at the Columbus Free Clinic. She also collaborates on interprofessional learning activities across the University, working to increase opportunities for Social Work students to learn with, from, and about other members of the healthcare teams with a focus on patient-centered care and health equity. Prior to her integrated primary care social work, Catherine had positions with a managed Medicaid program as a behavioral health care coordinator and worked in substance use disorder treatment across the spectrum of care, from detox to residential treatment. In addition to being an LISW-S, Catherine maintains licensure as an LICDC-CS. Catherine enjoys supporting students to be challenged, grow, and learn in various environments during their education, as a supervisor, liaison, and community instructor.
On a personal note, she’s pretty crazy about her formerly stray ginger cats Iggy and Gertie, loves to sing and dance, and goes out of her way to see the sunset.
