Newly Released: Epistemic Injustice and Resistance in Social Work
Congratulations to Dr. Ran Hu, who co-edited the new volume, Epistemic Injustice and Resistance in Social Work: Rethinking Social Justice in Practice, Education and Research with Dr. Eunjung Lee and Dr. Andrea Greenblatt.
From issues of power and oppression to institutionalized prejudice, this fresh release explores how epistemic injustice manifests in various aspects of social work practice, research and education. Readers also will learn how to bridge theory and practice across a range of issues in the profession, including mental health, transformative social work and the inclusion of systemically marginalized voices in practice and research.
The volume also features a chapter by Hu, which draws on her own research and professional experience to critically reflect on the epistemic silencing of people in the sex trades within the U.S. anti-trafficking movement.
Hu and her co-authors hope that the editors and chapter contributors hope to encourage social workers, educators and researchers to recognize and address the ways in which epistemic injustice shows up in their work, as well as how they can collectively contribute to a more epistemically responsible field.
