Evening of Recognition 2026 Recap

On Friday, May 8, over a thousand social work graduates and their loved ones celebrated their accomplishments at the college’s 2026 Evening of Recognition.

This year’s ceremony took place at The Ohio State University’s Schottenstein Center. And, for those who were unable to attend in person, the event also held an accompanying livestream. Over a thousand friends and family tuned in to virtually cheer on the students.

Dean David Jenkins opened the night congratulating students on their momentous achievement. On behalf of himself, as well as the college’s faculty and staff members, he extended the best of luck to these new graduates as they take the next steps in their social work journey.

“As you reflect on your time with Ohio State, remember that you are part of a powerful tradition,” Jenkins remarked. “Ohio State offered its first social work course in 1875. We are the oldest continuously accredited public social work program in the country, and we are ranked in the top 3% of programs. You could sum this up by stating you are graduating from one of the best programs in the country for making the world a better place.”

The festivities continued on May 10 at the university’s Spring Commencement, where social work students joined thousands of their peers also earning their degrees this semester. Ohio State is one of the few universities where all graduates participate in a single ceremony, and where each student gets their diploma at the ceremony.
