TAKE EDUCATION INTO THE COMMUNITY

WHERE SOCIAL WORK COMES ALIVE!

HeritageHouseAt OSU College of Social Work, undergraduate and master’s students contribute almost a half-million hours in service to agencies, communities and individuals across the globe.

Field Education give students the opportunity to translate classroom learning into practice, engaging with other social workers, and developing a professional identity.

Field Education is the signature pedagogy of social work, by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Signature pedagogy is the method by which a student learns their profession; for social work, that is in field education.

But signature pedagogies also do more; they disclose important information about the personality of a professional field — its values, knowledge, and manner of thinking, almost perhaps, its total worldview.

OHIO STATE FIELD EDUCATION STATEMENT ON
DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

In upholding field education as the signature pedagogy of social work education, OSU’s Field Education team unapologetically promotes social justice, embraces anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices, and prepares aspiring social work practitioners to advocate on behalf of, and work alongside minoritized individuals and communities, to deconstruct systems of power and oppression. We do this in the following ways:

  • Recognizing that this is an evolutionary process that requires evaluation and action,
  • Being committed to lifelong learning and education,
  • Serving an active role in allyship and the pursuit of equality,
  • Centering and upholding anti-oppressive practices,
  • Being open to feedback on growth opportunities, and
  • Being willing to hold our stakeholders accountable to anti-oppressive practices while adhering to the social work code of ethics.

We embrace a collaborative approach and invite you to join us in this endeavor as we work to dismantle white supremacy at all levels of practice.

Please feel free to contact our field staff with any questions or comments you may have.
