With more than 20 years’ experience in mental health service system research, Dr. Early is the director of international programs at the College of Social Work and is an affiliate of the Center for Latin American Studies at OSU. In 2011-12, she was a Fulbright-Garcia Robles research fellow at the National Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City. She has published numerous articles and book chapters in social work and mental health. Her article on the strengths perspective in social work practice with families, appearing in the journal Social Work, was the 27th most highly cited article in social work journals in the decade from 2000-2009. She has been awarded almost $1 million in grants and contracts for research and evaluation projects and mentored eight doctoral students to completion. She has served as a consulting editor for Social Work Research, Children & Schools, Journal of the Society for Social Work and Research, and Journal of Social Work Research and Evaluation: An International Publication. Dr. Early is past president of the Group for the Advancement of Doctoral Education in Social Work. She has developed or led education abroad programs in India, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Australia.
