Description
This training discusses how to implement Maslow’s hierarchy of needs with callers. Maslow’s hierarchy will be discussed from both historical and contemporary perspectives. Participants will learn how to prioritize a caller’s most urgent concerns and implement effective support strategies. Attendees will also learn how to provide appropriate resources to address basic and emotional needs, ensuring a comprehensive approach to helping callers.
This course is approved for 2 CE hours for Counselors, Social Workers, and Marriage and Family Therapists in the state of Ohio.
This course is approved for Substance Use Counselors in domain TR1 (renewals only) in the state of Ohio.
Social workers completing this course receive 2 general continuing education credits through ACE.

After completing this training, participants will be able to:

Course Completion Requirements
- Participants are required to stay logged in for the Q&A portion of the training for successful completion, as it is part of the educational portion of this course.
- Course completion is based on timed attendance as tracked by Zoom. Absolutely NO partial credit will be available for this training.
- Each participant must complete a course evaluation within THREE (3) business days of the session, by the deadline stated during the training.
- The course evaluation will include an unscored post-test that each participant must complete.
- Certificates will be emailed to participants within 7 business days to those who meet course requirements.
- Participants who submit an active and eligible license number issued by the Ohio CSWMFT Board and/or the Ohio CDP Board will be reported to CE Broker within 14 business days.

Kristin Torres-Pierce
Professional trainer and faculty at Columbus State Community College
Kristin Torres-Pierce, MSW, LSW, TRCC-II, is a professional trainer and a faculty member of the Social Work and Human Services program at Columbus State Community College. Torres-Pierce has a BSSW from Ohio University and an MSW from The Ohio State University. She has 25 years of experience as a social worker and community educator. Torres-Pierce is a trained subject matter expert in the areas of bias, diversity, cultural humility and trauma-responsive care. She identifies as a Queer woman who grew up in Appalachia and has a rich Puerto Rican heritage. Her intersecting identities give her a unique lens through which to see and interpret the world. She lives in Columbus, Ohio with her wife and their fur babies.

Angela Fry, LISW-S
Professor, Columbus State Community College Social Work & Human Services Program
Angela Fry, MSW, LISW-S, earned both her BSSW and MSW degrees from The Ohio State University College of Social Work. With a career rooted in trauma and abuse work, Fry has gained extensive experience through her service in various agencies in Columbus, Ohio. Fry began her career at CHOICES, a domestic violence agency, where she worked as a case manager supporting women residing in the shelter. She then spent a decade at Catholic Social Services, taking on diverse roles such as a home-based clinician for families involved with child protective services, individual and couples counselor, group therapy facilitator, and clinical supervisor. Venturing out, Fry worked with children who had been sexually abused and served in foster care. Returning to CHOICES, she served as clinical supervisor for several years and is now a professor in the Social Work and Human Services program at Columbus State Community College.
