LiFEsports is one of over 18 partners dedicated to the Million Coaches Challenge (MCC), an initiative that seeks to transform youth sport by training coaches nationwide in evidence-based positive youth development practices. Today, on National Coaches’ Day, the MCC is proud to announce a major milestone in training one million coaches thus far through the hard work of its devoted cohort.
In partnership with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), LiFEsports trained over 50,000 coaches across Ohio. This partnership, known as Coach Beyond, demonstrates the invaluable benefits that come from investing in coaches and communities to help young athletes feel safe, supported, and connected.
“This milestone is more than a number.” says Samantha Bates (MSW ’14, PhD ’18), LiFEsports Director of Research & Coach Beyond and faculty member at the college. “It means that coaches in Ohio are helping young people build confidence, resilience and a sense of belonging on the field, in the gym and in life. Together, leaders from LiFEsports and OHSAA are proud to help make quality coaching the rule, not the exception.”
