Congratulations to Dr. Susan Yoon who was recently selected as a 2025 Growing Research Opportunities (GRO) Research Leadership Fellow. She is among 22 Ohio State researchers selected, representing nine colleges.
Supported by Ohio State’s Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge Center, the 2025 GRO Academy is a professional development program aimed at helping researchers develop the skills and confidence to work on and lead effective interdisciplinary research teams. Using models of training through evidence-based guidelines, its curriculum offers a supportive environment for learning about principles of team science to be applied to participants’ research collaborations.
“As the first GRO fellow in the history of the College of Social Work, I am honored and excited to represent the college and contribute the unique perspective of social work to the GRO Academy,” says Yoon. Through participating in the GRO Academy, I look forward to gaining a deeper understanding of the value of team science and sharpening my leadership skills to build and manage effective interdisciplinary research teams.”
Yoon will participate in weekly in-person and virtual small- and large-group learning sessions and discussions. National and international experts in interdisciplinary research from Ohio State and across the nation will lead highly interactive sessions. Covered topics include developing research styles, creating collaboration agreements, creative problem-solving, handling conflict in research teams, and project management and strategic planning. Participants will complete the 30-hour course, running from February 14 – April 11, with a three- to five-year research plan and a toolkit to bring the plan to fruition.
