Ohio State students Todd Lee, a junior social work major, and Eric Bailey, an engineering technology major, are making a difference in Ohio State’s sustainability through their recent introduction of beehives to the Larry R. Yoder Prairie Learning Laboratory.
The two Marine veterans were inspired to implement this project following their shared time working with the Central Ohio Beekeepers Association Veteran Beekeeping School.
“We wanted to bring back the knowledge we had gained from the school that did so much for us and share it with others. It’s important for all of us to have a sense of service, and this project kind of gives us that,” said Lee.
With more than 11 acres of Sandusky Plains tall grass, Lee and Bailey are hopeful that these newfound residents will greatly benefit the ecological health and conservation of the prairie, as well as prompt widespread awareness and engagement from other Ohio State and veteran communities.
