Congratulations to PhD candidate Eric Sowers

Congratulations to PhD candidate Eric Sowers (MSW ’21) who has received the 2024-25 Outstanding Graduate/Professional Student Award and the 2024-25

Outstanding Veteran Student Award from the Office of Student Life, Leadership and Community Engagement.

As a doctoral student, Sowers continues to live up to his commitment to veterans. He has helped develop and support federal legislation for veterans, including the Veterans Justice Outreach Improvement Act and the STRONG Veterans Act of 2022. He has served as a military community advocate and was president of the Student Veterans Association. Sowers is also a Tillman Scholar and was inspired by the scholarship’s namesake and his call to service following 9/11.

“My honorable service forged a relentless path to transform adversity into advocacy,” says Sowers. “I was guided by these values and upholding the warrior’s spirit to transform challenges into victories for a better tomorrow.”
