Student-Alumni Mentorship Experience
The College of Social Work’s Student-Alumni Mentorship Experience (SAME) provides current CSW students of all levels (Undergraduate, Masters and PhD) as well as CSW Alumni with the unique opportunity to connect with a CSW Alumni who shares similar academic/professional interests to build their professional network. This is an opportunity for social workers to meet other social works who work within their desired interest to learn more about being a social worker in that interest. The meaningful relationships created in this program will help prepare students for a successful future and leave a lasting impact on the Ohio State and social work communities. The student application for being a Mentee and the alumni application for being a mentor is open year round.
Who can be apart of SAME?
- A CSW Student who is graduating and interested in learning about a specific interest of social work.
- A CSW Alumni who is looking for a potential interest change.
- A CSW Student who is looking for ideas for field placements.
Facts About The Program
The program is designed to be a one-off meeting between mentor and mentee; however, the pair are more than welcome to continue connecting after the original meeting. Mentees can request an unlimited number of meetings/applications, the program is designed to explore the fields of social work through CSW Alumni lived experience.
Becoming an Alumni Mentor
As a SAME Mentor, you will give back to the Ohio State and social work communities in a meaningful way by encouraging the retention of social workers in the workforce. Mentors will form a professional relationship with current social work students and alumni by sharing their experiences and insights and offering guidance to their mentees.
Additionally, you can earn a certificate of completion from the College of Social Work to add to your own professional portfolio. The alumni application for being a mentor is open year round.

“I had the privilege to be paired with an impressive young woman who was an absolute delight to interact with and to explore issues of practice, professional development, and social work values that were of mutual interest. I also appreciated the opportunity to meet and converse with other mentors and to share our experience of the program and our mentees with one another.”
