Dr. DaVonti’ DeAngelo Haynes

A four-time graduate of The Ohio State University, Dr. DaVonti’ DeAngelo Haynes is an assistant professor in the School of Social Work at Temple University. Dr. Haynes has demonstrated experience in course development, teaching at the secondary and postsecondary levels, student advising, and mentoring and program development. As an educator and practitioner, Dr. Haynes is on a pursuit of educational and opportunity justice for all. Thus, his research focuses on leveling the playing field for all youth by investigating and examining their lived experiences as it relates to education and workforce development—with a specific focus on urban and rural populations. As a scholar-practitioner, Dr. Haynes has a passion for creating sustainable youth and community development programs and policies. While primarily focusing on youth development, Dr. Haynes also has an interest in and research experience with developing best practices for student success and development, successful postsecondary transition mechanisms, mentoring initiatives, and community engagement/development across the lifespan. He asks the question, “how can institutions of higher education effectively, equitably and efficiently support (and enable) urban and rural youth to achieve their full potential?”
Dr. Haynes has worked on projects investigating the experiences of disconnection among young people, aged 14–26, to examine and understand the complex dynamics contributing to disconnection, including interactions with social systems; examined the live-experiences of Black boys and men in Philadelphia who have overcome the challenges posed by gun violence and crime across the city, and examined food access and quality across Alaska. In 2023, in collaboration with the City of Philadelphia, Dr. Haynes helped produced the documentary, A Hope That Lights The Way.
