Supervising the LISW Candidate

(This three-hour workshop in supervision meets the new supervision licensure requirement)
This full day, interactional workshop covers the essential aspects of supervision, examines the history of supervision, explores models of supervision, identifies the characteristics of effective supervisors, and presents techniques and best practices of training in supervision. 
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to . . .
•             Describe the major models of supervision for social work and be able to identify personal supervisory ‘styles’ based on the models
•             Learn the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board requirements for LISW candidate supervision, including documentation, time frames, etc. 
•             Define the characteristics of effective supervisors in today’s workplaces
•             Understand the supervisor’s role regarding education and training and how to balance this aspect with administrative and supportive supervision
•             Identify the principles of adult learning and understand the 3 learning styles (representation systems) and their application to training and development
•             Understand the boundaries that define professional relationships (supervisor-supervisee, supervisee-client, etc.)
•             Describe the five components of critical thinking and know how to utilize critical thinking questioning skills to enhance supervisee’s skills
Presenter: Ruth McMonagle, MSSA, MBA, is President of Resource Management Associates. Ruth has been an independent trainer and consultant for over twenty years, specializing in management/ supervisory training and increasing personal effectiveness. Ruth worked for 15 years in child welfare in many capacities, from caseworker to executive director.
