Physiology of the Brain and Mental Illness: Some Treatment Options
Learn how the brain is formed, and how it functions. Learn where thoughts and feelings take place, and how we have learned behaviors. Learn how memory (both short and long-term) is affected by age and maturity, and how trauma short-circuits the system. Learn how depression, ADHD, Executive Function, PTSD, and anxiety affect the brain.
Participants will learn how the different therapy theories and models are effective, in relation to how the brain processes information, and how medication and counseling work effectively together.
Presenter: Andrew Gillespie, MA, PhD in Exercise Physiology, MSW, LSW, is a clinical therapist and the wellness coordinator at Moundbuilders Guidance Center, a community-based mental health agency; the resident manager of McClain House, a therapeutic group home for adolescent males.
