Mothers and Adolescent Daughters: Decreasing Barriers to Increase Intimacy

The Mother-Daughter relationship can be one that presents the worker with enormous challenges than can involve emotional highs and lows, vast expectations of each other and belief systems that can be found only between these two people. These conflicts can reach their peak during adolescence, an often turbulent time for the pair. This training will provide those who work with mothers and daughters an understanding of the unique nature of this relationship, common pitfalls and conflict resolution skills to help them move into more acceptance, forgiveness and intimacy across the life-span.

As a result of attending this session, participants will:

  • To identify the specific cultural and social factors that impact the mother-daughter bond  and female development as a whole.
  • To identify & explore the healthy mother-daughter relationship including the emotional, psychological and social needs along the developmental continuum of both parties in the dyad.
  • To identify and rehearse strategies for intervention that may help the pair decrease  obstacles and increase intimacy.
