Human Trafficking: Modern Day Slavery in Ohio

This workshop will discuss the definition, scope and prevalence of human trafficking in the US, with a focus on Ohio. Participants will learn how and where human trafficking takes place, the psychological and physical effects of trafficking on victims, how to identify and help victims and how to join or develop local coalitions in their communities.

 At the completion of this training, participants will:

  • Learn the definition, scope and prevalence of human trafficking in the world, in the United States and in Ohio
  • Learn how to identify and respond to human trafficking
  • Have the knowledge they need to advocate to end human trafficking, including how to develop and/or join local advocacy efforts and the key elements of pending anti-trafficking legislation

Michelle Hannan, MSW, LISW-S is the Social Services Coordinator for The Salvation Army in Central Ohio. Ms. Hannan is responsible for The Army’s housing, workforce, education, material assistance and human trafficking survivor services. Since 2007, Ms. Hannan has coordinated the Central Ohio Rescue and Restore Coalition to end human trafficking.
