Reaching the masses: Removing the stigma from ‘getting help’
An ongoing struggle in social work and other human services is dealing with shame and stigma often associated with seeking assistance or accessing services. As professionals, we can do many things to reduce stigma, make our services less ‘scary,’ and increase the likelihood individuals will pick up the phone or walk into our office when they need our services. This training will include marketing and persuasion strategies, tools for changing our physical service environments, integration of cultural competence, and critical thinking and dialogue about our approach to service delivery.
