Introduction to Motivational Interviewing
This one-day workshop will provide an introduction to Motivational Interviewing and is designed for individuals who have had little or no previous training in Motivational Interviewing methods. The workshop also is tailored to those interested or working in the alcohol and/or drug field. The workshop will define Motivational Interviewing and workshop participants will learn and practice the five early methods of this counseling style. Participants also will receive initial training and practice in delivering personalized feedback reports to clients/consumers, and at the end of the day, time will be allotted for discussion of how Motivational Interviewing may fit into participants’ current professional roles. The workshop format will include PowerPoint presentations (including handouts), small group practice exercises, and time for questions and discussion. A box lunch will be provided, and a video presentation will be viewed over the lunch hour of a Motivational Interviewing session.
Objectives
1) Understand what is (and what is not) Motivational Interviewing.
2) Apply the five early methods of the counseling style.
3) Analyze how Motivational Interviewing may fit into their professional roles.
