Group therapy is a cost-effective, rewarding and effective method of therapeutic service delivery.  It can be a challenge to provide effective group interventions, especially with resistant populations.  This workshop focuses on the effectiveness of group therapy as an intervention and on the tools and techniques that will assist clinicians in sharpening their group therapy skills.

Objectives:

  1. Participants will identify helpful techniques in facilitating therapy groups and consider ways in which they may incorporate these techniques.
  2. Participants will learn how to incorporate motivational interviewing techniques in their group practice.
  3. Participants will learn to identify the drawbacks of a “spokes-of-the-wheel” group therapy style and learn alternatives.
