The course is designed for the alcohol and other drug abuse prevention professional and is intended to improve the understanding of and ability to apply a set of accepted standards/principles, which are expected to guide the behaviors and actions of both individuals and organizations working in the field. Participants will be able to identify standards of conduct for prevention professionals, utilize a method of decision-making for difficult ethical decisions in prevention, and set professional goals with the prevention ethical standards in mind.
Objectives:
Ø Increase understanding of what constitutes professional & unprofessional behavior.
Ø Increase knowledge & understanding of the Prevention Professional Code of Ethics.
Ø Integrate this knowledge & understanding into a deeper, more useful & practical understanding through case studies & discussion.
Ø Use this increased knowledge & understanding to develop a set of personal guidelines for professional conduct.
Allison Sharer, OCPS II, has worked in the prevention field since 1983. She currently works part-time as Assistant Director at Drug Free Action Alliance, and is an independent trainer and consultant. She has worked with programs doing peer, community-based and environmental prevention, and she has developed and presented educational opportunities for a wide variety of audiences.
