Ethics and Aging Population
(this training does fulfill the board licensure requirement)
Working with older adults in social work practice raises many ethical issues; conflict between core values of autonomy, justice, health and safety and the reality of poor decision making create ethical dilemmas.
This training by Lisa Durham will focus on how we ethically address these issues with our clients, ensuring the privacy of their needs and how our own values influence our work with older adults, both positively and negatively.
We will also discuss how dealing with these ethical issues change when it becomes our own parents that we are trying to help.
Participants who complete this training will be able to:
o Identify and apply ethical principles and standards in social work practice with older adults
o Demonstrate an understanding of how personal values influence professional ethics
o Identify mechanisms for resolving ethical dilemmas
o Understand through exercise the role of situational ethics
