Co–Occurring Disorders in Mental Health and Substance Abuse

Participants will identify Axis I and Axis II disorders in clients/patients with multi-faceted clinical issues and explore evidence-based practices for successful completion of treatment. Find out how some of the most difficult problems and the most challenging people can be the most interesting to work with. Seminar participants are invited to bring cases for consultation if they wish.

At the completion of this training, participants will:

  • Assess and identify anxiety and mood disorders as well as personality disorder traits and features in substance abusing and dependent people.
  • Learn tried and true means for behavioral management of symptoms in conjunction with successful pharmaceutical treatment

Nancy Jones Keogh is Clinical Director of the Community Health Center and a  psychologist in private practice. Her areas of expertise include psychological   assessment and diagnosis, treatment of anxiety and depressive disorders and       behavioral management of addictive disorders. She is a member of the medical staff at Akron General Medical Center and is adjunct clinical faculty at the
University of Akron.

Her work experience in a variety of settings has included Portage Path Behavioral Health Center, Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine, the Counseling, Testing and Career Center at the University of Akron, the Psycho-diagnostic Clinic of the Summit County Court of Common Pleas, and Akron General’s Health and Wellness Center.

Dr. Keogh has provided consultation for numerous agencies, boards and institutions in Northeastern Ohio. She has conducted workshops and seminars for many Ohio colleges and universities, including the University of Akron’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education and The Ohio State University’s College of Social Work.
