COMPETENCY-BASED SUPERVISION (fulfills supervision requirement)
This interactive workshop will address components of supervision definitions, what is new in clinical supervision, address stages of change in supervisors AND supervisee relationships. This workshop will cover three focus areas for social work including social work values and ethics, social work supervision and social work administration. Participants will have the opportunity in a consultation group exercise to look at difficult supervision situations.
At the conclusion of this training, participants will:
Understand why clinical supervision is important, how to distinguish from consultation, psychotherapy, mentoring and competency issues
Explore best practices of supervision, development of the supervisory contract, keys to alliances, indicators of strain, counter transference, ethics, ruptures, risk management, tele-supervision and professionalism.
Presenter biography for: KAY HIGGS-ADAMS, MSW, LISW, CFLE
Ms. Higgs-Adams holds a Masters in Social Work from W. Va. University School of social work, Morgantown W.Va. and independent supervisory social work licensure from the State of Ohio. She is a member of the National Council on Family Relations and obtained her certified family life educator certification in 2007. Her additional certifications included Active Parenting, Prepared Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP), US Army Family Advocacy, and US Air Force Family Advocacy Outreach.
Ms. Higgs-Adams has a combined 25 years experience in administration, education, clinical social work, military family advocacy, prevention education programming and private practice experience. Her achievements include presenting at the 2009, 2010 International Conference on Parenting Education at the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas. Ms. Higgs-Adams co received both fall 2004 and 2005 the Red Ribbon Community Campaign award with the Defense Supply Center, Columbus, Ohio from Under Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon. Finally in 2005 she received recognition from the Defense Logistics Agency HQ in Washington DC for establishing protocol utilized today for Out of Home child abuse prevention table top exercises.
