We know what we want – but do others? Often we think we are clearly communicating our ideas to others, but they don’t seem to get the message, are offended by the way the information is presented, or misunderstand the communication.
 
This one-day workshop will help you build communication self-confidence as a supervisor by becoming more aware of the primary interpersonal communication response styles; understanding HOW to listen effectively; know the types of communication to be communicated TO employees and UPWARD; and know how to listen and communicate more effectively.
 
At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
 
· Describe the four primary interpersonal communication response styles and know their effects on self and others
· Distinguish between assertive & aggressive responses and know the myths & misconceptions of being assertive
· Use positive assertive techniques including eye contact, body language,word choice, etc.
· Know the reasons why people fail to listen, understand and apply the two rules of effective listening
· Know techniques to enhance listening skills
· Define the key components of communicating in writing
· Know what and how to best communicate to employees, upward, and to peers

Ruth McMonagle, MSSA, MBA, is President of Resource Management Associates. Ruth has been an independent trainer and consultant for over twenty years, specializing in management/supervisory training and increasing personal effectiveness. Ruth worked for 13 years in child welfare in many capacities, from caseworker to executive director.
