BOUNDARIES: TEACHING CLIENTS WHEN TO SAY YES AND HOW TO SAY NO

This workshop will help social workers
educate their clients on establishing boundaries. Participants will learn the definition of boundaries, boundary conflicts, effective tools and techniques to teach clients and barriers creating resistance to boundaries. This presentation will cover three focus areas for social work practice including social work methods, human development, and social work values and ethics.
At the conclusion of this training, participants will:
Gain a better understanding of the three types of boundaries that define who you are and who you are not and how those influence a person’s life
 
Working definitions of physical, emotional and personal boundaries
 
Case studies and group breakouts to discuss solutions and how to implement to help the client
Help their client measure success with boundaries and how to establish boundaries within themselves and in the workplace
Presenter biography for: KAY HIGGS-ADAMS, MSW, LISW, CFLE
Ms. Higgs-Adams holds a Masters in Social Work from W. Va. University School of social work, Morgantown W.Va. and independent supervisory social work licensure from the State of Ohio. She is a member of the National Council on Family Relations and obtained her certified family life educator certification in 2007. Her additional certifications included Active Parenting, Prepared Relationship Enhancement Program (PREP), US Army Family Advocacy, and US Air Force Family Advocacy Outreach.

Ms. Higgs-Adams has a combined 25 years experience in administration, education, clinical social work, military family advocacy, prevention education programming and private practice experience. Her achievements include presenting at the 2009, 2010 International Conference on Parenting Education at the University of North Texas, Denton, Texas. Ms. Higgs-Adams co received both fall 2004 and 2005 the Red Ribbon Community Campaign award with the Defense Supply Center, Columbus, Ohio from Under Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon. Finally in 2005 she received recognition from the Defense Logistics Agency HQ in Washington DC for establishing protocol utilized today for Out of Home child abuse prevention table top exercises.
