We will learn the diagnostic criteria and general impression of Autism Spectrum Disorders, as well as disorders with similar or related features, such as ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, OCD, and being highly gifted. Participants will practice their diagnostic skills on real cases, learning to differentially diagnose as well as recognize dual diagnoses. We will give special emphasis to Asperger’s Disorder, which presents some unusual yet common challenges in assessment and treatment. We will review brain structures and processes that are part of Autism Spectrum Disorders. There will be some activities to help depict these disorders and deepen your understanding of the Autism Spectrum. Then, we will look at options for helping individuals on the autism spectrum and their families.

Jim Foley has over 20 years of experience working with children, adults, and families. Jim has helped clients with emotional, developmental, behavioral, cognitive, learning, and relationship problems; provided counseling/therapy in homes, at agencies, and in schools from kindergarten through college. Jim also presents trainings on a variety of topics.
