Alcohol is still the most widely abused drug out there and alcohol abuse and alcoholism are connected to the majority of the other societal ills many social workers and other human service professionals are running into. Yet, even within the human services field, the knowledge level around low-risk consumption levels, increased biological risk for addiction, etc. is pretty limited. This training will take a look at the span of alcohol use, abuse, addiction and the with a wide variety of audiences this subject touches. Even people who don't drink at all know someone who does, and probably someone who does too much.

Presenter Jim Ryan is an Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist II with more than 25 years experience in alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse prevention and working with youth and communities. He is also co-founder and former publisher/editor of Outlook, a newspaper targeting the gay community in Greater Columbus. Jim is president of Ryan Training & Consultation and provides services to school systems, organizations, businesses and other groups throughout the United States.
