Supervision: Conducting and Conveying Performance Evaluations
(CSW will apply for the CSWM&FT Board Supervision Designation)
One of the most difficult tasks of many supervisors is appraising the performance of workers. Evaluating an employee’s performance involves far more than a pat on the back or complying with an organizational directive to complete a performance appraisal form. To be meaningful, performance appraisal must be viewed as a process, not an annual event, consisting of steps which begin when the employee is hired and culminating in a formal discussion with the employee.
This one-day workshop is designed to develop a supervisor’s understanding of the performance appraisal process and to build confidence and skills in conducting the performance appraisal interview.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
· Understand the many and varied uses of performance appraisals
· Define the purpose of documentation, its importance in the appraisal interview, and identify sources of documentation that can be utilized in the appraisal
· Understand the process of performance appraisal and the necessity of using regular feedback to enhance the effectiveness of the evaluation discussions
· Know the types of individual biases and ways of overcoming them
· Practice setting and writing performance goals and objectives
· Know the 7 Key Steps of the Performance Appraisal Process and develop and Action Plan for enhancing future performance appraisals
