Certificate Program in
Human Services Management
The College of Social Work is proud to announce the creation of the Certificate Program in Human Services Management. Designed to train social workers for positions of leadership within human service organizations, this program will prepare participants for a meaningful future in social work management and administration. Candidates in this program will receive 70 hours of Continuing Education credit, which includes three hours of Ethics and three hours of Supervision.
This program has been made possible through the generosity of a donor to the College. We thank the College’s alumni donor for a vision for the enhancement of our continuing education program and outreach to the social work practice community. Also, because of the philanthropic basis of this program, we are able to offer limited opportunities for financial support.
Our program starts in June 2009, and lasts through December of 2009. Sessions will be conducted one weekend a month, on a Thursday evening and all day Saturday. All trainings will be held at Franklin County Children Services. The graduation program in December will be held at the Ohio State University. Below are the dates for our 2009 program:
Tom Gregoire, PhD, Associate Dean OSU College of Social Work
Michelle Hannan, MSW, LISW-S, Salvation Army
Michael Preston, MSW, Community Housing Network
Richard Boettcher, MSW, PhD, Professor Emeritus OSU College of Social Work
Sondra Crayton, PhD, Ohio Department of Health
Lori Criss, MSW, LISW-S Amethyst
Appropriate candidates for this program include:
Potential candidates should complete the attached application. Each candidate must have a mentor who will work with them throughout the certificate program on a regular basis to help them put the modules into practice. Ideally, the mentor would be someone at the candidate’s place of employment who holds a management or administrative position. However, if this is not feasible for the candidate, we have a group of professionals who have volunteered to act as mentors. On your initial application, you must identify a mentor, and have their agreement to participate.
The total cost of this program is $1,500. This includes the cost of the training sessions, the CEU credits, lunch on Saturdays, and parking. There are several options to funding this program.
1. Your employer can pay the entire amount for your participation.
2. You and your employer can share the cost.
3. You can pay the entire cost of the program.
4. A portion of the cost equaling $300 can be covered by fee waivers from the College of Social Work. The remaining amount can be paid in any of the ways listed above.
5. College of Social Work Alumni Society members may receive a 20% discount, $300 off, for a program total cost of $1,200.00.
6. You can only apply one discount option; the fee waivers or the alumni discount, but not both.
The fee must be paid prior to the June 11th program. The College of Social Work also has a competitive scholarship available for those demonstrating financial hardship. If this is a concern, please address this in your application.
Upon acceptance into the program, you will receive a bill for the cost of the certificate program. Payment can be made via check, money order, credit card, or agency invoice.
Application deadline has been extended to June 4, 2009.
