Treatment Implications for Sex or Porn Addicts

December 8, 2009
9:00 AM – 4:15 PM
6 CEU/clock hours
Location: 115 Stillman Hall, 1947 College Road, Columbus OH

Participants will receive a thorough training on assessing, diagnosing, and treating pornography/sex addiction.  The training will focus on giving practical techniques based on the traditional 12 step support/treatment model, CBT, psychoeducational and solution-focused treatment for the helping professional working in an individual therapy format.  Resources in the Columbus area will be reviewed.

Participants will leave this training with an increased feeling of competency with how to process past behaviors in the session, how to help the client understand how to use support group versus the therapy session, and how to help the client decrease feelings of guilt and shame.  Participants own biases and sterotypes will be challenged with experiential exercises throughout the course.  Statistics with co-occuring disorders and how to treat will also be included.  This training will help increase the knowledge of any helping professional, but addictions counselors will be especially interested in how to integrate their chemical dependency background in this field that is now demanding more experts.

Jennifer Haywood is an adjunct faculty at the Ohio State University in the MSW and BSW programs, as well as Capital University in the BSW program. She has had a contract as a therapist at Counseling and Consultation Services at OSU and is currently contracting with Matrix Psychological Services conducting drug and alcohol assessments and providing individual therapy for mental health and/or chemical dependency issues with adults and adolescents. Jennifer also has her own private practice and is a well respected trainer, specializing in Alcohol/Drug issues, Dual Diagnosis assessment and treatment, and DSM-IV-TR training.
