Presenter Jennifer Haywood will provide mental health professionals an intermediate level training through both didactic and group discussions from participant and presenter experiences. Jennifer will delivers up-to-date treatment skills and techniques using actual case studies. Participants will gain an overview of the common co-existing diagnoses and assessment challenges that clinicians have when working with this population. Discussions will include ways to determine appropriate diagnosis and assessment techniques based on individual strengths and treatment implications of the MRDD client.
Participants will have learned at the completion of this training:
• Learn common implications of having a client that has a mental health diagnosis on Axis I with a co-existing MR diagnosis on Axis II
• Learn how to assess someone with MR for mental health issues
• Common MH and Substance use issues associated with the MR client
• Treatment implications will be discussed to assist the clinician working with the client with MH and MR or with all three issues; MH, MR and CD
Presenter: Jennifer Haywood, LISW, LICDC, has been treating dually diagnosed adults and adolescents for over fifteen years; is a private practitioner and lecturer at Ohio State University, College of Social Work, Columbus State and Capital University.
