Out in the World: Working with Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Youth
October 28, 2009
9:00 AM – 4:15 PM
6 CEU/clock hours
Location: 115 Stillman Hall, 1947 College Road, Columbus OH
Though visibility has increased, gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) youth remain an underserved and misunderstood population. Increasing cultural competency with regards to GLBT youth increases our effectiveness in our work environments and in the community.
Through didactic presentation, small group work and activities, participants will increase their understanding of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth and how to best meet their educational, social, and other needs.
As a result of attending the training, participants will be able to identify the system and personal barriers that impact education, prevention, and other services for GLBT youth; how to deconstruct those barriers; and how to more effectively serve the GLBT youth we work with every day. Participants will also be provided with resources and reference material to assist in these efforts.
Participants will learn:
1. Increase knowledge of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth/consumers.
2. Improve ability to identify and deconstruct barriers affecting the education, social development, and safety of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth/consumers.
3. Increase capacity to change the service environment for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender youth/consumers.
