Teamwork in Treatment with Groups and Families

Teamwork development strategies, including those we’ll practice today, can improve cohesiveness in workplaces (including counseling agencies).  It’s time to bring the value of team-building to the groups and families we work with. 

This will be a hands-on workshop about teamwork activities which can be used with small and large groups and with families, in settings such as schools, mental health centers, home-based work, detention centers, and nursing homes.  In between our practice experiences, we will take time 1) to evaluate which activities to choose for which situations, and 2) to reflect on some principles of teamwork to bring out in the activities.   Activities include a few created or adapted by the presenter as well as activities with a history of success in the field. 

Objectives: 

1) Participants will learn how to implement at least four teamwork activities which could be used with groups or families.

2) Participants will learn at least four principles guiding the selection and implementation of teamwork activities for different populations.

3) Participants will learn formats for integrating teamwork activities into at least four different types of practice settings.

Jim Foley has 20 years of experience working with children, adults, and families. Jim has helped clients with emotional, developmental, behavioral, cognitive, learning, and relationship problems; provided counseling/therapy in homes, at agencies, and in schools from kindergarten through college; and presents workshops on a variety of topics.
