Professor Pantalos has conducted research studies listed in the Annual Publication of the North American Association of Alcoholic Programs, presented numerous papers at national, regional conferences and on radio broadcasts concerning mental health issues and problem drinking for several medical professions.
Professional Practice & Career Development
Professor Pantalos worked in clinical treatment agencies for 14 years and gravitated toward treating problems associated with excessive drinking. He joined the Ohio State University School of Social Work in 1962 as a field instructor, supervising students at the Columbus State Hospital and teaching undergraduate social welfare courses. He then shifted to Field Supervision in the College of Medicine Mental Retardation Training Program, after which he resumed general field liaison duties while continuing to teach undergraduate and continuing education courses in different subjects. He carried a heavy advising load and mentored many students during his long tenure on faculty. In his personal life, Professor Pantalos is married, has two children and five grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the European Theater from 1942 – 45. He enjoys traveling, tinkering at home, volunteering for COSI, and is an accomplished musician who in recent years occupied the principle clarinet chair in the North Arlington Symphony Orchestra.
