Endowment Established in Memory of a College of Social Work Colleague

In the midst of tragedy and loss comes a glimmer of hope for future College of Social Work students. In August 2008, the College mourned the loss of one of its own staff members, Sharon D. Moore (BSSW ’77; MSW ’80). Sharon served as a Field Education Coordinator for the College for the past 21 years. She was also the advisor for Mwanafunzi, the student chapter of the National Association of Black Social Workers (NABSW).
Through the generosity of Dr. Ann H. Moore, Sharon’s step-mother, as well as other family members and friends, an endowment fund has been set up in Sharon’s name to honor and memorialize her work at the College. Dr. Moore (BA, Social and Behavioral Sciences, ’75; MA and PhD, Education, ’79 and ’83) established this fund to provide students enrolled in the College of Social Work, and who are members of Mwanafunzi, with opportunities to present scholarly research at student symposia, and represent The Ohio State University at a national level. Income generated from this fund will provide for such things as conference travel expenses, registration fees, and other expenses related to national NABSW conferences.
