The College of Social Work, Office of Field Education, welcomes the opportunity to develop new field practicum settings and to establish community partnerships. The field program is currently affiliated to over 600 agencies throughout Ohio. Agencies are selected based on their ability to provide students with appropriately structured learning experiences and quality social work supervision. A successful practicum requires both time and professional commitment. Agencies can initiate interest in becoming a field site by downloading and completing the
Field Education Application Packet and mailing these forms with original signatures to the address below:
The Ohio State University
College of Social Work
125 Stillman Hall
1947 College Rd
Columbus, Ohio 43210-1162
Once all the paperwork has been received by the Office of Field Education, a staff member will contact you to set up a time for a site visit. Usually a site visit is made to further evaluate the agency's appropriateness as a field setting and is also an opportunity for you and/or any agency staff members to learn more about the field program. Upon selection, a faculty liaison is appointed to each agency in order to give academic support to the agency based field instructor. The College's curriculum provides educationally focused goals and objectives to guide the development of the practicum experience in each setting. Student placements are made through a formal referral and pre-placement interview process, which allows for the negotiation of arrangements and expectations prior to placement confirmation.
In exchange for participating in our program and providing valuable services to social work students, the college provides benefits to field practicum agencies:
*fee waiver credits to be used towards any credited course at The Ohio State University or for College of Social Work continuing education workshops
*library privileges at The Ohio State University
*orientations trainings and workshops, which includes free CEUs, annual awards recognition luncheon
*development and administration of research grants and joint publication efforts
We appreciate your interest in the field program and look forward to receiving your application. If you have any questions please call the Office of Field Education at 614-292-7686 or email at cswfield@osu.edu.
