Requirements & Policies

The College of Social Work at The Ohio State University requires all students to complete a field practicum as part of a social work degree. Field education is crucial because it is where students able to put their classroom learning into real-world practice.

LIABILITY INSURANCE 

All College of Social Work students who are registered for field have liability insurance coverage for their field practicum.

Student fees for liability insurance are included in the field fees on student accounts.

SOCIAL WORKER TRAINEE LICENSE 

The Social Worker Trainee (SWT) license is only for MSW/ASAP students who do not have an LSW in the State of Ohio and who are currently enrolled in a field practicum. The SWT can never be used for work or volunteer purposes. The SWT is administered by the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and M arriage & Family Therapist Board. This license permits students to bill for some services through the Ohio Department of Mental Health.
