MSW Online ASAP

PROGRAM OPTIONS

The Online ASAP program is 43 credit hours. Your MSW degree can be completed full-time in one year or part-time in two years. All of the coursework in the program will be conducted online, though the Field Practicum will be conducted in person at an agency placement.

FOUNDATION COURSES (4 credit hours required) 

SWK 7400 – Evidence in Social Work Practice

SWK 7500 – Professional Development

PRACTICE AREA SPECIALIZATION COURSES (6 credit hours required)

MENTAL HEALTH & SUBSTANCE ABUSE 

SWK 7620 – Integrative Seminar I on Mental Health & Substance Abuse (emphasis on Mental Health)

SWK 7621 – Integrative Seminar II on Mental Health & Substance Abuse (emphasis on Substance Abuse)

ADVANCED PRACTICE METHODS COURSES (12 credit hours required)

These courses are intended to teach students “how to do it” regardless of the service system in which they are working. Students are required to take 12 credits hours of advanced methods courses with at least one course from the micro-level menu and at least one from the macro-level menu.

MICRO-LEVEL (at least one micro-level course is required) 

SWK 7510 – Strengths-based Clinical SW with Individual Adults

SWK 7512 – Clinical SW Practice with Couples & Families

SWK 7515 – Crisis Intervention & Trauma Treatment

SWK 7516 – Assessment & Diagnosis in Social Work Practice

SWK 7519 –Motivational Interviewing

SWK 7520 – Pharmacotherapy in Social Work

SWK 7521 – Evidence-based Substance Abuse Treatment

MACRO-LEVEL (at least one macro-level course is required)  

SWK 7530 – Needs Assessment & Program Design

SWK 7532 – Supervision and Human Resource Management

PRACTICE OR PROGRAM EVALUATION COURSES (6 credit hours required) 

The first course introduces the knowledge and skill required to complete practice or program evaluations and the second course gives students the opportunity to conduct practice or program evaluation projects. Students in the online ASAP Program will complete 7401 & 7402.

SWK 7401 – Evaluating Social Work Practice

SWK 7402 – Applied Practice Evaluation

FIELD EDUCATION & FIELD SEMINARS (8 credit hours required)

Students are required to complete 672 hours in the online ASAP program in an approved field placement.
