PhD

Established in 1927, the PhD program in the College of Social Work at the Ohio State University has a long history of graduates contributing to social change through research as faculty in universities across the United States and around the world.

As a doctoral student in Social Work, you will gain the foundations and expertise necessary for change oriented research and scholarship. Through the mentoring of your faculty advisor and committee, you will engage in translational science research and scholarship –moving primary research results into application and dissemination to the social work practice community.  The curriculum, candidacy exam, and dissertation are all designed to contribute to this goal. In consultation with your committee, you will also develop a specialization that will allow you to contribute your own unique expertise to your research and scholarship in the doctoral program and in your faculty career.

Focusing on developing researchers and scholars who can move research results into practice, we welcome competitive and diverse applicants who not only have diverse personal backgrounds, but diverse research interests or come from a diverse fields in the social sciences.
