
The College of Social Work at The Ohio State University invites recent Ph.D. recipients in social work to submit abstracts describing their dissertation research for the 21st National Symposium on Doctoral Research in Social Work.
Dissertations completed between May 2007 and December 2008 are eligible for consideration. The authors of the selected abstracts will be invited to present their research at the Symposium, where a renowned researcher and scholar will deliver the keynote address.
Presenters will receive a $200 honorarium, and their abstracts as well as the keynote address, will be posted (an electronic Proceedings) on The Ohio State University’s University Libraries’ Knowledge Bank https://kb.osu.edu/dspace/index.jsp under the community, National Symposium on Doctoral Research in Social Work. This will provide a permanent URL for citation purposes.
Authors should submit three copies of a 1000-1500 word abstract including:
Abstracts should be typed, double-spaced and may include references. Please omit references or other information that identify the author.
A title page accompanying the abstract must include:
Dissertations are evaluated on their contributions to social work knowledge, research methodology, and contributions to social work practice/policy. The selection committee also considers the theoretical foundation of the research, the methodological rigor, and the rationale presented for undertaking the research.
Please note that abstracts may be submitted for the Symposium as well as for other dissertation awards, such as those made by SSWR and CSWE.
Abstracts must be postmarked by January 9, 2009. You will be notified by February 18, 2009 if your abstract is selected and you will be asked to declare your intention to present by March 2, 2009. Your final presentation and paper will be due April 10, 2009.
