The doctoral program prepares students for independent scholarship with an emphasis on research, theory development and testing, and publication of scholarship. Graduates pursue faculty and research careers.
To achieve these outcomes, the curriculum is organized around a series of common core courses and individualized specialization courses taken in a substantive area. The specialization courses are taken in various departments throughout the university to help students acquire a broad body of knowledge in their selected area of interest.
The curriculum is divided into five major areas:
The core courses focus on theory/knowledge-building, research and statistics, advanced practice theory, and professional development.
