ATTENTION MSW STUDENTS!
About the MSW Program
Welcome to the MSW Program homepage. Our over 9,000 alumni serve as leaders and change agents across the United States working as direct practitioners, administrators, evaluators, and analysts in a wide range of public, private, and government agencies. Social Work has a long and rich tradition at The Ohio State University; we offered our first social work course in 1875 and awarded our first Masters degree in 1923. Accredited in 1919, Ohio State is the country's oldest continuously accredited social work program in a public university.
The MSW program prepares graduates for advanced social work practice. The program consists of three principal parts: In our foundation curriculum students master the theoretical knowledge, professional values, and core competencies common to all social work practice. The advanced concentration is highly applied and focuses on acquiring expertise as a master's prepared social worker in one of several practice areas. The extensive field practicum experiences integrate theory and both foundation and advanced practice and provides highly mentored opportunities in which students further refine their skills as professional social workers.
We enroll competitive students from diverse backgrounds and with diverse practice interests. The MSW Program Office staff look forward to hearing from you as you consider our program for your post-baccalaureate studies and as you pursue your graduate training in The Ohio State University College of Social Work.
