Pre-major Social Work Requirements

As a pre-major student, you will complete a wide range of courses that are offered across the university (General Education Curriculum).  You will also complete two social work classes designed to expose you to the social work profession; social work values; and how the issues of race, gender, class and ethnicity affect the social welfare and well-being of Americans. 

• Social Work 230: Individual Needs and Societal Responses, students gain an introductory understanding of human needs, social values, ideologies and institutional structures which have shaped the evaluation of social welfare programs in America.
  
   
• Social Work 300: Minority Perspectives: Race, Ethnicity and Gender, students examine the structure of human societies, cultures, and institutions and the allocation of resources from the vantage point of oppressed minority populations.

Enrollment in the Social Work Pre-Major

In order to enroll in the social work pre-major, you must have a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative GPA and meet with an undergraduate social work advisor (Meghan Good or Andréa Severson). See below for the advising contact information and office location.
