A new mural in the College of Social Work illustrates its new vision to “embrace difference, seek justice, and be the change.”
In conjunction with its strategic planning efforts, the college recently revised its mission and vision statements to reflect a renewed focus to prepare leaders who enhance individual and community well-being, celebrate difference, and promote social and economic justice for vulnerable populations.
To illustrate the meaning behind the words, the college is displaying a new mural featuring diverse people joined hand-in-hand with uplifted arms. The mural, centrally located on the third floor, serves as a constant reminder of the college’s strategic vision. The new mural will also be displayed in future building projects as well as on the college’s web site and electronic and print materials. The mural joins the WPA Federal Arts Project, in which 10 life-sized murals depict scenes from the history and development of social welfare.
