AlumniSocial Work Alumni Scholarship FundAn endowed scholarship was established by the Alumni Society Executive Committee in September 6, 1985 after raising over $10,000 through alumni gifts. Over the past twenty years, Alumni Scholarship awards have helped support more than 40 students but more financial assistance is needed today and more is needed for future generations. With the continuous rise of tuition, individuals seeking a career in the helping profession need our support to lessen the financial burden of earning a BSSW, MSW and/or PhD in social work. Thus, the Executive Committee launched a campaign in September 2005 to raise an additional $50,000 to achieve an overall endowment level of $100,000 by 2009. Thanks to the continued support of alumni and friends the endowment grew in 2005-06 by $3,925, $4,797 in 2006-07, and an additional $5,550.23 in 2007-08. As of spring 2008, the endowment reached $63,000 and at the May 2008 Scholarship Luncheon the Society awarded scholarships to two students: incoming MSW student Corretta Whyte $2,300 and incoming BSSW student Roxanne Nisly $2,300, our largest dollar awards to date. To all who contributed to the scholarship fund this past year the Society Executive Committee says "Thank You". We hope we can count on your continued support. Each year the interest generated by this endowment is awarded in the form of scholarships to deserving doctorate, master and/or bachelor candidates. Though many more donations are needed to reach the $100,000 by 2009, we remain focused and optimistic. All donations are greatly appreciated, please give what you can.
