BSSW Graduate Traci Lewis Honored with Congressional Award
Congratulations to Traci Lewis BSSW ‘85, who was recently selected as a 2010 Angel in AdoptionTM Award recipient by the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI). Lewis was selected for demonstrating her strong commitment to improving the lives of children in need of permanent, loving homes. Ohio’s Congressman Pat Tiberi chose to honor Lewis because of her dedication to adoption and positive child welfare practices.

Lewis received her award, along with other “Angels” from the remaining 49 states and the District of Columbia, in October, at the House of Representatives office in Washington, D.C. This event boasted more Congressional participation than any child welfare event in the nation, with over 190 Members of Congress participating and more than 850 guests in attendance at the gala each year.
Along with the 2010 Angels in Adoption™ selected from all fifty states and the District of Columbia, National Angels in Adoption™ are also awarded for their dedication to orphans and foster children on a broader, national scale.
Additionally, Lewis was appointed as National Student Advisor for the National Association of Black Social Workers and works with the Office of Student Affairs Student Executive Leaders, student chapters, and their advisors around the country. She is also the National Steering Representative for the organization’s Columbus Chapter and is a member of the National Membership Committee.
Currently, Lewis is the director of Ohio State’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s ACCESS Collaborative Program, designed to support, retain, and graduate low-income single parent students at the university.
