College Receives 2010 Alumni Society Medalist Award from Ohio State Alumni Association

The Ohio State University College of Social Work Alumni Society recently received the 2010 Alumni Society Medalist Award from The Ohio State University Alumni Association (OSUAA) at its leadership conference, held October 8.

Membership growth not only made it possible for the society board to provide programming for students and alumni, it was also a reason OSUAA honored social work’s alumni society. Following are just a few activities the society supported during the academic year of 2009-2010:  

• sponsored 30 different events
• offered 52 CEUs free to society members
• awarded one-quarter tuition to one undergraduate student and one MSW graduate student
• made a gift of $12,000 to the Alumni Scholarship Endowment Fund
• donated an additional $3,600 to the Student First Scholarship Fund
• delivered 300 pounds of food collected from alumni who attended our events to the Ohio Food Bank
• helped students send packages to servicemen in Afghanistan
• assisted students in making aprons for women in Haiti
• held an ”I Survived Comps” pizza party for graduating MSW students after taking the dreaded comprehensive exam
• took graduating seniors to Ohio State’s Spring Game

Outstanding Society Award 2009

Under the leadership of Pamela Mayor, the continued support of all executive committee members, and the assistance of Program Director for Alumni Relations, Dianna Barrett, the College of Social Work Alumni Society was selected in 2009 as  “Outstanding Society” by the Ohio State University Alumni Association (OSUAA).  The society received this award October 30th at the 58th annual OSUAA Leaders Conference. This was the Society's third Outstanding Society award since 2005.
