Years of experience as a medical social worker informed Dr. Raiz’s research agenda. Her initial interest in the role of health policy in the experience of illness and wellness evolved to an interest in access to, and utilization of, health care. Initially, her work focused on the experiences on individuals undergoing renal transplantation. In 2011, she received a grant to examine the status of primary health care in Ohio and the implications for future policy. Her work sought to identify factors that predicted having a usual source of health care, experiencing admissions to the hospitals and ER visits. One focus of her work is the needs of those living at, or near, poverty. Dr. Raiz has published articles in journals such as Health & Social Work, Social Work in Health Care, Journal of Social Work in Education, Transplantation and The Journal of Poverty.
