Two graduates from Ohio State’s College of Social Work are among NASW’s amazing list of 2010 Community Action Heroes–Samira K. Beckwith (left), ACSW, LCSW, FACHE, and Eileen Saffran, MSW, BSSW. Using the theme, "Social Workers Inspire Community Action," NASW is showcasing social workers who have inspired community-wide change. In its March 2010 newsletter, Ohio State’s Office of Geriatrics and Gerontology recognized the work being conducted by the College of Social Work, and specifically, Dr. Holly Dabelko-Schoeny and Dr. Keith Anderson in partnership with the National Adult Day Services Association. Funded by the MetLife Mature Market Institute, co-principal investigators Dabelko-Schoeny and Anderson are conducting the first national study of adult day care programs in eight years. New this week!
In the spirit of Social Work Month, the College of Social Work (CSW) is partnering with Mental Health America of Franklin County (MHAFC) to help raise critically needed funds for mental health consumers in Franklin County. In addition, CSW would like to provide an opportunity for faculty, students, and staff to show their appreciation for one another and our ongoing commitment to values, principles, and growth of our profession.
Throughout the month of March 2010, you are encouraged to stop by the CSW Field Office (Room 125 Stillman Hall, 1947 College Rd., Columbus, OH 43210) during regular business hours and complete an appreciation card to honor or thank a fellow student, colleague, professor, or staff member. The appreciation cards will be strategically displayed in Stillman Hall for all to see. We ask that you provide a minimum $1.00 donation (yep, just a dollar!) for each appreciation card and anything more than that would be most generous. If you don’t wish to complete an appreciation card, feel free to make a monetary donation.
Donations will be collected at the end of the month and provided to MHAFC as a check from CSW. The final day for appreciation cards and collecting donations will be March 31, 2010. For more information on MHAFC, visit www.mhafc.org
